Hourly vs flat rate cleaning calculator
Thinking of quoting a flat price instead of billing by the hour? Enter your hourly rate, the flat price and how long the job takes. You see what each method pays and the time at which the flat rate stops paying more. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
The boxes start with a worked example. These are not suggested or typical prices; type in your own rates and times.
Use cleaner-hours (two cleaners for 2 hours = 4 hours). The flat price stays the same however long the job takes; the hourly price follows the time.
How it works
Hourly price = hours × hourly rate. Effective hourly rate on a flat price = flat price ÷ hours taken. Break-even time = flat price ÷ hourly rate: finish faster and the flat price pays more; take longer and billing by the hour would have paid more.
Worked example (the values above): at $45 an hour the estimated 3 hours bill $135.00, and the 3.5 hours the job really took would bill $157.50. The flat price is $150.00, so for this job it paid $7.50 less than hourly billing, an effective $42.86 an hour ($150 ÷ 3.5). The break-even time is $150 ÷ $45 = 3 h 20 min: had the job taken less than that, the flat price would have paid more.
